He/His
Shawn Deverteuil is a Licensed Master Social Worker from Adelphi University. He has an array of experience working with young and older adults, providing trauma-informed mental health services within nonprofit organizations, serving on the front lines providing clinical services for community members, organizations, and individuals impacted by violence. Shawn has worked to increase the knowledge around mental health and direct practices, the intersectionalities between race, masculinity, systems, violence, trauma, and trauma reactions seen in young boys and young men Nationally through presentations, workshops, and conferences, while also holding space and supporting those in their personal healing.
Shawn’s approach is eclectic in working with individuals utilizing different theoretical approaches to therapy rooted in trauma-focused cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy, as well as psychodynamic and humanistic, while also utilizing play and creative arts to serve youth to adults who struggle with trauma, anger, depression, anxiety, relationships, self-esteem and identity, and overall life stressors. I value the importance of building that rapport in order to establish that therapeutic relationship, working from a strength-based perspective, while honoring and validating their experiences, and their resilience as we travel on your healing and personal growth journey.
